Following a debate marking 50 years since Enoch Powell’s ‘Rivers of Blood’ speech, Wolverhampton Historic and Civic Society received an application and private funding to erect a blue plaque in the late MP’s name.

The application divided the city, with more than 20,000 taking part in an online poll on the blue plaque plans.

Enoch Powell was involved in the Thalidomide scandal of the early 1960s and I spoke to the Thalidomide society and survivors about the plans.

My news piece on the Thalidomide angle was subsequently purchased and published by Trinity Mirror’s Sunday Mercury title.
