The weather had been mild with glimpses of occasional sunshine during the first few days of 2016

But by January 7, as rough sleeper ‘Julie’ tucked herself and her belongings into a restaurant doorway, the skies had turned drizzly and dull.

Her body was discovered there the following morning.

A chronic drug user, ‘Julie’ had died from hypothermia.

Later a friend placed flowers where her bags still lay on Queen Street, Wolverhampton.

The card read: “Deeply shocked. Thinking of you at peace finally.”

“We came to the conclusion that was something we never wanted to happen again,” says local resident Matthieu Lambert.

As a community in Wolverhampton we wanted to make sure we were doing everything humanly possible to put in place everything needed so people can chose to get out of homelessness.
